R won't arrive until after 6pm, which should give me a chance to get the house cleaned up a bit more and to watch some more Buffy. Must... get... more... Buffy!
At lunchtime I nearly made Jason choke to death when I said, "There were only two problems with Michael Collins: it wasn't six hours long, and it had Julia Roberts in it."
Jason looked at the Washington Post review of K-19: The Widowmaker with me, and opined that Liam Neeson looked terrible in the picture of him with Harrison Ford, but much better in the second picture. In fact, Jason's actual words were 'He-llo!' Then he went on to discuss the attractiveness of Qui-Gon Jinn. I was very pleased.
I can't wait to see K-19. I might bug R to go see it tonight or tomorrow night, even though I'll be going with the family while I'm in Boston next week. The film is improbably well-suited to the four of us, as I like Liam Neeson, my brother likes submarine stuff, and my mother likes Harrison Ford. As I always say, throw in a little Russian Orthodox theology for my dad and we'll be all set. Though Harrison Ford has suffered something of a fall in my mother's estimation since he left his wife, and especially since he took up with Calista Flockheart. A few years ago, she told me that Ford should get an Oscar for Random Hearts... in May she remarked out of a more or less clear sky that Liam Neeson is a better actor. Not an earthshattering revelation, but a significant one.
Another Choking Moment from lunch... KiwiDave (new student in Literary Manuscripts, so called because he hails from New Zealand) turned to Jason and asked, apropos of nothing, 'Have you ever used any illicit substances?'
