mint julep update

Wikipedia came to the rescue, of course, with the following links to Alton Brown's mint julep recipe and another one from a bourbon company. Drawing on the bourbon company recipe, I made some sugar syrup with mint (by cooking down equal parts sugar and water with a whole lot of crushed mint leaves) and mixed up a tablespoon of the syrup, two tablespoons Maker's Mark Kentucky bourbon, a few mint leaves, ice, and seltzer in a mug, which was passed around the table for sampling. "Who'd like one of her own?" I asked.

Then another Badger satellite arrived with a bottle of Maker's Mark as big as my head, and he made a pitcher of julep using only mint, whiskey, syrup, and ice. Those of us who were Not That Satellite diluted our drinks with seltzer or still water, but they were still heady. Good but WhoaStrong.

In other news, it's Monday, I accomplished very few of the things I wanted to over the weekend, and my tailbone/pelvis/bottom vertebrae hurt. Bah.

Hmm. Sounds tasty; is Maker's Mark your bourbon of choice?

And, did you find your slightly more labour-intensive version superior? It kinda sounds fun.

I do prefer my version. The other one was not as refreshing. MM is the only bourbon I've ever tried... I have focused my tasty on the Scotch and Irish end of things. Which I think I generally prefer. Though I suppose it is not legal to make a mint julep with Jameson.

I have no idea what caused the injury! I went on a short hike yesterday afternoon, including some very steep inclines, but I've made similar treks before without incident. All I know is that my lower back started hurting last night and now it hurts whenever I get up from sitting and aches very faintly all the time.
