What is there to say?
There was an article in the New York Times about reporting on Vietnam, the Gulf War, and this one. In the Gulf War, journalists weren't with the front line troops, which is perhaps why I don't remember hearing about casualties. The main reason I didn't hear about casualties is that I wasn't paying attention. I was afraid to pay attention.
I'm a grown-up now, and I need to pay attention. I'm not doing all that well, because I'm still afraid, and because... well, because I'm still afraid. There's some paranoid distrust of The American Media and a lack of the facility and vocabulary in French (my lone other language) necessary to read other sources. But mostly it's just fear.
