Am rereading All Creatures Great And Small for the first time in at least fifteen years, and possibly more like twenty. I find that Tristan's constant smoking worries me, and that Siegfried is much less funny now that I've had jobs other than babysitting. I've never had a boss that inconsistent, but I can imagine all too well what it would do to my stomach lining. However, the often-hilarious veterinary adventures, and the loving descriptions of the dales and the food, are still engaging.

Also recently reread Thursday's Child and Circus Shoes as part of my ongoing Noel Streatfeild bliz. Both of them stood up better on rereading than Theater Shoes did, which was interesting. I still dig the London-just-post-Blitz cultural-history porn of Theater Shoes, but the narrative thrust isn't very strong; the evolution of the children in Circus Shoes is more satisfying. And Thursday's Child is still a pleasing a juvenile Gothic bonbon.

Internet's out again at home and thus will probably be out through the weekend.
