Poor LMM

I skimmed to the end of Lucy Maud Montgomery: The Gift of Wings. It is a good biography, but friends, I have to warn you that the last few years of her life were very, very hard in a way that's difficult even to read about. Both she and her husband had severe depression which was exacerbated rather than alleviated by the medications available at the time, the tide of literary criticism had turned powerfully against her style and genre, and her older son was sexually harassing the household help and generally continuing to display the sociopathic tendencies she'd attempted to control or hide since his early adolescence.

AND she started a sequel to Jane of Lantern Hill, to be called Jane and Jody, but was too ill to continue it.

Poor Maud.
