The smallness of the British acting world continues to delight me. You know who guest starred in the Jeremy Brett version of "The Red Headed League"? Tim McInnery (Percy/Capt. Darling on Blackadder) as Vincent Spaulding and Richard Wilson (Gaius on Merlin) as Duncan Ross. You can watch the episode on YouTube starting here.

Also, you know who's going to guest star on Merlin? Adrian Lester (Mickey on Hustle) and Charles Dance (Guy Perron in The Jewel in the Crown). EVERYBODY GETS IN ON THE RENN FAIRE FUN!

Totally un-Merlin-related, you know what's useless? Paying for a service and then never activating it. DEAR SELF, NEXT TIME JUST BURN THE MONEY.

I'm reading Lucy Maud Montgomery: The Gift of Wings, a new biography by one of the women who edited LMM's journals. I started it while in Vermont last month, but had to leave it with my mother and only got a copy through ILL this week. There's lots of fascinating stuff about the emotional parallels between what was going on in her life and what she was writing about, as well as about how she constructed her life in her journals for future biographers. Just now I'm feeling rather crushed at how dreadful her financial luck was. Her original publisher was a scoundrel and a cad, who pressured her into signing a miserly contract, and cheated her on even the paltry terms of that, depriving her of all but a fraction of the profits on Anne of Green Gables and other early books. The had a ten-year legal wrangle, and she eventually won a settlement of $14,000. Which she put into the US stock market. In early 1929. EEEEP.
