A very busy, though extremely pleasant, weekend - the usual Friday dinner, then visitors from DC on Saturday night, with a few other folks in for pizza, an incomprehensible sci-fi film, chocolate fondue, and a good bit of beer. The visitors hung around until Sunday afternoon, and then I went to a local Stitch 'n Bitch meetup with
jimmi_obadger.
Last night I sat. Had some leftover pizza and a beer. And then spent the better part of ninety minutes alternately watching bits of a House rerun and running the shower to see if any water hot enough for bathing was to be had. Apparently everyone in my building washes dishes and takes showers at 8pm Monday night. Who knew?
Tonight I have a co-op shift and tomorrow there may be a book club meeting. At this point I'm rather hoping the book club doesn't happen, because while I'm intrigued by the book thus far(Middlesex, Jeffrey Eugenides), I'm not likely to be done with it in time, and I could very much use a quiet evening on Wednesday.
Recently read:
- The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. Diverting, rather like Connie Willis super-lite. The alternate-history worldbuilding is quite well handled, if overambitious, but I did not find the characters well-defined.
Recently seen:
- The American Astronaut (2001). The back of the box calls it a "space western musical." It's very strange and very low-budget and... weird.
- Bits of Blackadder III and Blackadder IV. Hot potato, orchestra scores, Puck will make amends!
Recently heard:
- Dar Williams' new album, My Better Self
- Lori McKenna's Bittertown
