kivrin: Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth I (elizabeth)

Here we are. I feel all neatly categorized and plugged into little word-shaped boxes after going through all the signing-up stuff. And then flipping back and forth from the setup to the view screens to see what color scheme I could live with. I didn't even get in to different layouts. This one looks like Glim's, and thus is somewhat familiar, and so I like it.

Hi Glim! Thanks for the invite! I picked a name from another book, in the end. _Doomsday Book_ by Connie Willis. The original Kivrin is also a grad student, but her program was more challenging and exciting and painful than mine.

Kivrin. Kivrin. I am Kivrin. I'm getting rather a pile-up of identities, but I really wanted a new one for LJ, to give the journal enough anonymity that I'll actually feel able to write about things in it. I can't imagine having a web journal that had my RL name on it, as well as all the specifics of my location. Or, rather, I can, and I know what a dull exercise in polite public relations it would be. Oh, I stubbed my toe but everything's fine, fine, we're all fine here now, how are you?

I decided there wouldn't be much point to doing this unless I actually would talk about anything and everything. So, new name, some veiling of distinguishing characteristics, and honesty. That 'sexually disoriented' line in my minibio, for example -- I've almost never voiced that before. Thought it, often, but only voiced it twice. 'Denominationally confused' I *have* used in RL, to good humorous effect in many cases, which is rather the effect I was going for. I like making people laugh when I mean to. Unfortunately, I'm so addicted to the methods by which I do so that I often end up making people laugh when I mean to be deadly serious, and I hate that.

I also decided I wanted a place to stick all my results to all the quizzes that are popping up like croci in the lawn of the internet. :-) :-) Of course, I haven't got one on hand now, and it's high time I went to swap my laundry into the drier.

The plan for tomorrow -- remember how to do proper html formatting, figure out how to do smilies, and how to do those MOOD and MUSIC headings.

This is fun. :-)
